02-19-10 / 12:56 AM : Apple : Flash is obsolete (cjed)
During an interview about the iPad, S. Jobs may have stated that Flash is among obsolete technologies, like were floppy disks (removed since first iMac), Firewire 400 (many don't share this idea) and CD (also not true, as until we get lossless on ITMS, there hasn't been better format than CD, except SACD - however it didn't succeed).
Adobe then responded the same as usual, stating Flash represents 80% of videos on the web, and that HTML5 won't be completed before years (that is false, considering the rate of its implementing in browsers, despite the spec being only 6 months old). The reality it that Flash generates high revenues through ads, and Adobe couldn't then get anything from the iPhone market.

02-16-10 / 10:48 PM : 64 bits Cocoa Photoshop in CS5 (cjed)
Adobe's CS5 suite may finally bring 64 bits (then Cocoa) version of Photoshop for MacOSX. Moreover Flash tools will allow to develop native iPhone applications (that is by using a compiler that Adobe presented recently - in order to circumvent lack of Flash plugin in iPhone).

02-09-10 / 11:46 PM : Corona SDK for iPhone (cjed)
Ansca company (founded by formers Adobe mobile engineers !) presents Corona, a development environment for iPhone that uses a proprietary SDK based on Lua language (scripting language widely used for games), a compiler (requires an Intel mac) and a simulator (that also works on PowerPC).

Among SDK's features we note an OpenGL ES accelerated graphics engine, video support, as well as accelerometer, touch and camera support. A command-line debugger is provided. Multiple platofms support is planned. The compiler produces very small binaries..
A 30 days trial is available.
The full version (99$) includes a one-year membership to the Corona Developer Program, that allows to deploy to AppStore, and provides free SDK updates. It is stated however that compiling requires membership, so it may have to be renewed each year.

02-09-10 / 12:38 AM : iSpectrum : iPhone dev in Java in Eclipse (cjed)
We knew Xmlvm, a Java to Objective-C cross-compiler (that uses XSL stylesheets to transform JVM calls to Objective-C instructions) - that also provides a subset of Cocoa APIs in Java. Now we can discover iSpectrum from FlexyCore (french startup founded in 2008 by people that worked at INRIA and Texas Instruments), a solution composed of an Eclipse plugin (3.4 version min), Java ports of iPhone APIs (UIKit, CoreLocation, MediaPlayer), and an emulator. The Java code is compiled into Objective-C, and the Eclipse debugger is available. Compiling and using the emulator however require an Intel mac.

A 30 days demo (15 compilations) is downloadable, and a free open licence is provided for applications released under open source licences (for commercial applications, a Pro or Entreprise licence has to be purchased - prices not listed yet).

02-05-10 / 12:42 AM : Free H264 licence extended (cjed)
The free use licence for H264 codec has been extended by the MPEG LA until late 2015, for freely provided videos. This should then help HTML5 video tag spread in blogs, social sites and companies sites (sites that sell video content still own purchased licence). Thus, Adobe's recent decision to (finally) optimize Flash on OSX seems logical.

02-05-10 / 12:26 AM : Flash 10.1 : CoreAnimation (cjed)
In an article about Flash, we learn (in comments) that the 10.1 version will use CoreAnimation on OSX, and then will be at least as fast as the Windows version. Performances also seem to be tied to the browser.
