| The famous site ArsTechnica provides a review of the Zune. Without surprise it isn't and will not be a serious alternative to actual ipods (and even less for the next ones). Although Microsoft took Apple ideas/patents (scrollwheel of the ipod, iTunes look for its bundled synchronisation software - not Windows Media Player !) the Zune doesn't bring really new feature nor even the same quality as actual ipods : - looks like the ipod but is deeper and bigger, and less cute (made of simplier materials), - a bit bigger screen with exactly the same resolution, so less bright, - less good sounding (at least less good headphones), no support for variable bitrate encoding, some bugs in encoding, - no support for formats with DRM (Fairplay songs buyed on the iTMS, and even Windows DRM are not compatible !), - bugs in synchronisation software, less rich interface, very small titles catalog, - limited battery life (14h), - poor inspiring WiFi technology, - no possibility to use the player as an external hard drive ! |
