23-11-08 / 13:23 : iPhone Cube FPS 1.2 update (cjed) | A 1.2 update to free Cube FPS for iPhone is available at the AppStore. The enhancements of this version are : fixed accelerometer failure bug, fixed keyboard so reliably displays and in landscape mode, faster image loading with less memory used, minor performance tweaks and smaller overall download size (half the 1.0 version). We can find first encouraging comments here.
To remember, the multiplayer game through Wifi is provided, as well as single player mode (the later allows to choose a map and then bots are controled by the software). We can look at Fernlightning blog, that made this iPhone port.
| | Comments | Performances are still bad (about 5fps), that is playable in some maps but largest (outdoor) remain unplayable. I couldn't put the sound off (could have helped), perhaps there is an option command to enter in the command line menu. I discovered the Edit menu, it allows various in game editing features, such as elements hilighting (selected areas with colored wiring overlay), that looks great (in the Tron way), even if it isn't the goal here (the purpose it to select elements to interact with - add or remove, etc.) Videos of the iPhone Quake port were ways smoother (at least 3 times the Cube framerate), so there is hope. Then slide in the menu items, and press the lower left corner to activate the selection (the same for fire while in game). Moving (while playing) is done by pressing on the lower right corner (that displays the fps count). There are plenty of available maps in the Single player mode.
