02-18-06 / 04:53 PM : Philip K. Dick : Out in the garden (cjed)
Expecting few from a new Philip K. Dick novels compilation, because these included here are not famous, i however crossed the line and started reading it. Dans le jardin presents some not so good ones, but three at last are great : indeed Out in the garden, Beyond the door, or Whitered apples are close to Edgar Poe's absurd/horror style, and are somehow terrifiying.

02-18-06 / 03:45 PM : The Battle of Corrin (cjed)
Last chapter of Before Dune serie, brings back life to the last book (The Butlerian Jihad), that could sometimes be boring due to long military tactical descriptions. As usual, there is multiple plots and key events, and always this fluent writting. We are putting high hopes in the next serie, After Dune, planned by the authors. After having written these 6 big novels in no more than 5 years, perhaps the wait will not be too long. I discovered in The Battle of Corrin what i belive to be a clue about the ulimate "fear" mentionned in Chapterhouse, the last chaper of the original Dune cycle.

02-18-06 / 02:10 PM : Silverbeg : Dying Inside (cjed)
I'm a bit late in reviewing the books i read the last months. So start with Robert Silverberg's Dying Inside. This is not SF, no more Fanstatic as the author is so much talented. The book is very bound to psychedelic trips of seventies, the time it was written indeed. Through flashbacks, the main character remembers its flaws caused by its uncommon skill, that is to be able to guess what people think. Sometimes it could remind Le Horla, however it is less dark, more funny, and surprinsingly harder. As usual with the author, it is very original and very well written, to a point it could put "classics" to shame.
