There is still among My Dream App contest a stunning control panel, Atmosphere, that modifies background image relative to weather conditions and time. And MacOSX 10.4 can still display any animated screensaver as background, for example using the command /System/Library/Frameworks/ScreenSaver.framework/Versions/A/Resources/ScreenSaverEngine.app/
