Don,t forget all the Firefox Windows-users either. But why compare with Linux, Jerome? As I see it, Vista should be your mocking-target. Both Mac and Linux is really fighting for the leftovers while Microsoft takes almost the whole cake! In my opinion, both Apple and Microsoft represents much of the same. Big mega-corps mostly concerned with their own profit, using closed source, proprietary formats and patent-mania to reach their goals. Jobs or Gates, it doesn't matter.

Hi Halvor, you are totally right, Microsoft and Apple have the same objective, to dominate the market and close third party software market (as Apple is starting to do with the iPhone). However Apple designs things in elegant and fun manner, because Jobs doesn't care about money if he doesn't do cool things. And well, OSX uses a lot of open source fundations. However its market model is closer to Microsoft's. Open source has limitations too in quality and usability. I don't loose an occasion to say what i think about Vista... but Linux with XGL is copying the mac too :)

Of course open source has its disadvantages too. Take the Linuxsampler for instance, it supports gigastudio 2 and 3, but I often get artefacts in the sound, and you never really know if the library you just bought actually will work. This isn't actually the developers fault, because I can't imagine Tascam is sharing their code to idealistic projects like this. You also get other problems that's not actually related to the software itself. For example Linux-developers have not access to the AAC-format because Apple don't give away information. Legal issues on the MP3-format is also a headache, and many distros chooses not to support it. OGG is used instead, but lacks support in various hardware, because the manufacturers choose to ignore it.
