| Intel presents the AVX, successor to SSE4, and due to 2009. It brings 256 bits paths and 3 operands. We can also read an article at ArsTechnica about AMD's SSE5, equivalent but with 128 bits data paths only. It is stated that Altivec (back to 1999...) was better designed thanks to its free assignable 4 operands. |
