23-03-09 / 22:36 : New Mac Pro and games (cjed) | The site barefeats provides a test of new Mac Pro (and older) in various games, using the available graphics cards. As expected the latest ATI cards are ways faster than GeForce, and cores frequency is the second factor (as games don't benefit from additionnal cores - then the larger Nehalem memory bandwidth isn't really usefull here. It seems the same for multithreaded OpenGL on OSX - or tested games don't use it, contrary to WoW -, or data exchanges between the main processors and the central memory are limited for these uses - data are stored initially on the video card memory, and OpenGL threads on the main cores only control GPU execution units calculations on these data). | | Comments | Write a comment | |
