20-05-06 / 12:16 : CodeWeavers CrossOver vs BootCamp & Parallels (cjed) | We now have at our disposal 3 solutions to run Windows applications on Intel Macs : BootCamp (restart needed, better preformances - better for games - but more painful, more risky because of virus, needs a copy of Windows and a dedicated partition), Parallels Workstation (easier to manage - no restart, safer, also require a Windows licence plus the software cost, few informations about games performances) and CodeWeavers CrossOver (doesn't require buying Windows but less compatible, notably the Windows applications instalation procedure is made out of Windows, because the software is aimed to replace Windows...). These three solutions - not finalised (alpha for CrossOver, beta for BootCamp, Release Candidate 1 for Workstation) - are presented in this article. To note, Windows images coming from VirtualPC do not allow booting over BootCamp.
