07-31-06 / 06:45 PM : FrontRow/Powerpoint from K750i (cjed)
Macbidouille presents two HID descriptors developped by a reader, that allow to remote control Front Row and Powerpooint from a Sony-Ericsson K750i phone (using bluetooth). The install consists in droping the files in the internal memory folder, at the root of the filesystem, through the MacOSX bluetooth files exchange application. Once installed, the remote applications are available on the phone via the Entertainment-->Remote navigation.
A good alternative to Saling Clicker (not free) shareware.

07-29-06 / 12:34 AM : Fenêtres volantes : screensaver (cjed)
Well, nothing to do with Windows Longhorn/Vista (that is lagging far away and see its main features go away...) Fenêtres volantes is a screensaver that displays all windows flying and rotating. Macbidouille gives a link to a first beta (the project is hosted on the great programming site objective-cocoa).

07-28-06 / 02:49 PM : Saving data from a handy (vincent)
How not to loose data from a mobile phone ? The ZYB web site gives a free (seems so) answer to that question by synchronising your contacts and diary from everywhere by use of GPRS and SyncML technology. The whole compability with Mac should be available in a while.

07-25-06 / 09:19 PM : Skype : video support beta (cjed)
A preview version of Skype including video support for mac is available here. As Gizmo, Skype uses a proprietary (and undocumented) protocol... So it should be restricted to conferences involving Windows users, as iChat AV is far more better under OSX (better video quality, up to 4 video streams, etc.). However Skype and Gizmo interfaces are well done on OSX compared to Windows versions.

07-20-06 / 10:18 PM : OmniWeb 5.5b1 / Shiira 2.0 preview (cjed)
Last versions of OmniWeb (5.5beta 1, free 30 days evaluation, purchasing licence required next) and Shiira (1.2.2, 2.0 preview, free) go further Firefox, not only in a UI manner, but also features wise : workspaces and sessions saving/restore (tabs, positions, etc.) for OmniWeb, Tab Exposé and Page Transition Effect (Shiira only), Tab Thumbnails for both, etc.

07-20-06 / 10:08 PM : DreamLinux 2.0 : OSX like (cjed)
DreamLinux 2.0 is a Linux version (LiveCD, no hard disk installation required) that provides a user interface close to OSX Aqua (see the screenshots). It is available in two versions, Work and test, the later using XGL, a user interface acceleration system based upon OpenGL (same principle as OSX's Quartz Extreme) developed by Novell.

07-07-06 / 10:08 PM : CoverFlow : more fun than Front Row ? (cjed)
Front Row is very useful for playing multimedia files in fullscreen without using the mouse (media center principle), but using the remote available with recent macs. However it only presents files in list view (movies, musics). CoverFlow is an extension for iTunes that search for all installed albums (music only), grab artwork from different sources on the internet, and allows to naviguate through a virtual graphical library. It is free and a demo video can be watched here.

07-01-06 / 11:28 AM : OpenOffice 2.0.3 / NeoOffice 2.0 beta (cjed)
OpenOffice 2.0.3 brings among other improvements the support of Intel Macs, and a better system integration with MacOSX. That is here (X11 version). There is also NeoOffice, a port of OpenOffice to OSX that uses Cocoa and Java to provide native appearance : Aqua menus, native controls (partial).
