03-28-07 / 11:17 PM : Vista sales : Microsoft gives wrong results ? (cjed)
Clubic reported that Vista sales numbers provided by Microsoft are wrong : these 20 millions copies are in fact over a 4 months time range, not two (XP was sold 18 millions times in first two months, that is twice). All that including OEM versions that computers makers had to include (they were threaten to have their licence removed if they wouldn't...) and planned updates plans. Indeed the very costly Vista and poor new features (as with XP...) did a lot.

03-26-07 / 11:49 PM : Leopard in two months max (cjed)
While Apple denied a rumor (thrown by a speculator...) stating that Leopard would be delayed due to Boot Camp integration into OSX, an opposite rumor says the OS would be ready and close to final candidate. Technically there is at least two months yet for remaining builds and packaging.

03-26-07 / 01:13 AM : MacOSX : 6 years of revolution (cjed)
MacOSX has been here for 6 years (a bit more if we count the public beta)... that is the gap between Apple and Microsoft's Vista. As always we can look again to its evolution at L'aventure Apple.

03-22-07 / 11:31 PM : First pictures of Apple TV (cjed)
We can see first pictures of Apple TV installation (shipments have started this week) at Gizmodo blog. The box is very tiny, even more than a Mac mini.

03-21-07 / 09:23 PM : Review of the Apple TV (cjed)
Macnn pointed an article from the Wall Street Journal (not free...) that is the first review of Apple TV. The setup box works perfectly, even on old machines. It doesn't yet support streaming from internet (only from up to 6 computers, mac or pc), however that use would be limited to watching trailers, as movies buyed on the ITMS are downloaded (not streamed).

03-20-07 / 10:18 PM : AI : the upcoming new imacs (cjed)
AppleInsider speaks about next generation imacs expected soon. The screen size should be the same as the actual highest models (20 and 24'). Nothing about LED screens nor touchscreen models.

03-15-07 / 12:37 AM : Microsoft's Plot to Kill QuickTime (cjed)
Macsurfer points an article on the site roughlydrafted that explains how Microsoft plotted since 98 to force Apple to stop developping Quicktime and work together on new codecs. We know the following : IE versions that broke the QT plugin, rumors that plagged QT Player on PC, etc.

03-12-07 / 10:55 PM : EU and DRMs : the rolling stupid ideas (cjed)
It has been a time (in fact a few weeks only :)) since the european commission said stupid things about DRMs. The new sentence if funny (always the same refurbed) : "Do you find it reasonable that a CD will play in all CD players, but an iTunes song will only play on an iPod?" asked Kuneva. "It doesn't to me. Something must change."
However Steve Jobs was clear about ITMS not dumping ipods sales, but very strongs ipods sales dumping (in a very little proportion) the ITMS (a few percents in fact, as ipods music comes mainly from CD rips or internet). And what about Microsoft, Fnac, Virgin or other services unavailable for mac users, or using proprietary Windows DRMs ? s

03-11-07 / 10:40 PM : Leopard : ready to put Vista to shame (cjed)
Macosrumors speaks about the last build of Leopard, that is fare more stable and brings many bugs fixes (far more than last builds). There is yet two months before features freeze and focus on remaining bugs (that is 3 months from release, as planned). But the most important thing is that we have the confirmation of non yet unveiled secret features and of the hard work Apple did to put Vista to shame :
"...very excited by its substantial official changelog and even more dramatic undisclosed featureset"... "we are very happy with how things stand in the Leopard arena and congratulations are most certainly due to the Mac OS X team who have done a great job putting Windows Vista to shame.".s

03-09-07 / 10:32 PM : Apple Store retails : stunning success (cjed)
Despite serious doubts and criticism from business figures about the launch of Apple Retail stores in 2001, their success is astonishing and they beat records of growth, as reported Fortune. Steve Jobs didn't hesitate to hire the best specialist in that area, from Gap, and to innovate in products presentation (more intuitive), as in the design domain (patented stores concept).

03-07-07 / 11:48 PM : Back to 1997 : the threat of stopping Office (cjed)
PC Adivsor speaks about past memos exchanged at Microsoft in 1997. The Microsoft employee at the head of the mac softwares development group revealed to B. Gates that the threath to stop Office for mac was the strongest mean of pressure to Apple. In fact Microsoft was charged by the federal agency in 98 for such commercial fact (Apple was forced among other things to put IE preinstalled on every mac).
Moreover Office for mac was used to beta test new features, as mac users seem more reactive and reveal new behaviors more easily (perhaps they are smarter ?) Microsoft said, without mentioning this market is less critical.

03-07-07 / 11:33 PM : New Apple products : next week ? (cjed)
Macworld reported that most macs models are backloged, that is stocks are very low and won't be replaced, leaving the high probability of new macs introduction next week. Even if Leopard won't ship now (will be out in 3 months) Apple can still deliver the new machines and demo Leopard on these. Users will have to wait a little before using the new touchscreen features.
They would gain focus for months as they did with the iPhone announce. That was also the case for the first imac, but now the new macs should be out right now because old stocks won't be replaced.

03-06-07 / 11:58 PM : Vista yet cracked (cjed)
Just after being released, Vista is yet cracked. The mean used is innovative as it is based upon the easy activation procedure included in the OEM versions. That is here at PC Inpact.

03-06-07 / 10:08 PM : Apple and Google, Apps & multi-point touchscreen (cjed)
Google's CEO repeated that Apple and Google are working together on more and more projects. Rumors spoke about a tablet PC, and there is plenty of clues about the multipoint touchscreen revolution at Apple this year : the iPhone, the secret features of Leopard embargoed to the last time, the focus upon Core Animation and resolution independance of UI at developers conferences, the very long expected new Apple screens, that should have been out since months.

We can then be assured to see new screens fitted with multipoint touch technology, combined with applications using these features provided by Leopard, the first being the new Logic. These screens could even rotate to work horizontally depending on the context. And the few time remaining for beta-test isn't a problem since few applications and Finder areas at start will use this technology (we can expect a new developer release following the announce at the MusikMesse).
