Here is a site that provides links to free GM Soundfont libraries that can replace the QuickTime musical instruments (settings through QuickTime preferences), some of these weight hundreds of Mb. We can then find .kar files there for french songs or here for international songs (see also this FAQ - targeted for PC).
On mac Qmidi allows to send Midi messages to an external Midi interface (only internal musical instruments or Soundfont with QuickTimePlayer).

A change in Mysql 5 Password function led to a login problem (the password hash computed is now long - was short - and then it is different from the ones stored in the database). To fix the problem the old_password function has been added to the password check (it generates a short hash value).

It appears that the 10.5.2 update also brings back the Dock folders browse in list view (popup menu), a feature that had been removed from the final version of Leopard. Moreover when can choose to display the elements as stacks instead of list view (and this time with more than a level of depth).

The 1394 Trade Association presented the Firewire S3200 specification, that allow to quadruple the speed over Firewire 800 (3200 mbits, that is 400 Mbytes/s). The ratification should proceed January, 2008.
To remember, Firewire advantages over USB (3 included) and eSATA are : peer to peer transfert mode, uses very less processor resource (close to zero), provides power to external peripherals (hard drives, etc.), greater reliability and usual speed very closer to theoric speed.

Apple posted an update for Java 1.4 & 1.5 on MacOS X 10.4. The new versions of the JDK are respectively 1.4.2_16 and 1.5.0_13. That is here. No information yet about JDK 1.6 for Leopard.

Recent songs that may be hosted locally only for some time keep the MP3 icon). The news titles background has changed, with an added slight delimiters for news.

Macosrumors reported that the next iphone firmware update (1.2, expected next January) may boost performances, by increasing CPU clock frequency from 412 Mhz to 533 Mhz (103 to 117 Mhz for memory, the processor being conceived initially to operate at 667/133Mhz). An OSX kernel optimization will in fact allow this evolution, without compromising battery life nor causing increased hot.

Net Applications presents OS marketshares for november. The iPhone is still 50 percent more leveraged than mobiles fitted with Windows CE. The overall macs reach 7%, that is close to Windows Vista marketshare (9%), more than Windows versions before XP (represents 78%), and far more than Linux (only 0,5%).
