The first provides baritones, tenors, altos and sopranos (with articulations and effects), and we can listen to a demo. The second includes esoteric instruments (glass harmonica, verrophone, musical glasses, bottles, lithophones, giant tam tam, bass waterphone).Among these announced products we can also find Appassionata strings, that brings complete expressive strings sections (20 violins, 14 violas, 12 cellos and 10 basses) with variable vibrato and legato, articulations, and progressive tunning. | Besides Massive and FM8 demos, NI provides a demo of Battery 3. It only includes 6 of the 100 factory drumkits (and they are scaled down versions) but all features are available (settings save is disabled as expected). As other demos, the session time is limited to 30 mn... however the freeze function still works. The download weights 109 Mo. |

The demo videos remind a famous movie. Apple is also targeted in this way with its touchscreen patented technology. |

| NI just released Kontakt 2.2 update (universal binary). However, despite the update being free if used from a PowerPC mac, it requires a licence (29$, free if Kontakt 2 was buyed/activated after september, 12) to be launched from a Mac Intel. Following the Halo game costly universal update, it seems this tends to be generalized. The new Kontakt version brings some improvements and new features. The update weights 121 Mo, but NI servers are very fast. |

| MHC presents pianos, an hybrid piano synthesis software in VST format (basic or exotic sounds through synth section and effects). So it only requires 25 Mo samples (100 Mp total with expansions) for about 1024 presets (256 in the base install), samples being used as oscillators (as does Pianoteq). A demo version is available for PC (also audio demos), a mac version is expected soon. The software is priced 99$. |

 Only one Midi port is managed (one connection) but many systems can operate simultaneously. However at 139 euros we would probably restrict it to the master keyboard connection with the sequencer/computer. Other instruments can then be controlled through another Midi interface (sending Midi messages to local expanders). The transmitter can last 20 hours (2 AA batteries, rechargeable batteries recommended so). Could be useful with the Roland A30 (also can operate on batteries)...s |

It provides the same audio quality as the Mbox 2 (24 bits, 48 khz) but with only one stereo in (2 mono instead of 2*2) and no digital I/O nor MIDI. At 329$ perhaps it is less interesting than the standard MBox 2 (495$), or MBox 2 Pro (799$, Firewire instead of the USB 1.1 found on the two former).Besides we can find M-Audio Firewire 410 (4 inputs, 10 output, Firewire) at 329 euros.... s |
