| While doing some search about Roland V-Piano new PHA-III keys technology (progressive keys motion sensor, instead of only two states), I discovered that patent, MOTION SENSOR FOR A PIANO KEY MOTION ANALYSIS SYSTEM, that was filled in 1996 by a french person, and was published in 1999 (see also here, 1995). We can then wonder if Roland owns a previous patent about the same principle. We can indeed find an old Roland patent (from 1974 !), that seems to cover basic two states mechanism, but also states : During the time required for this movement a previously charged capacitor discharges and the voltage remaining on the capacitor is applied to circuitry which varies the volume of the output tone accordingly. In a commercial Roland PDF about the new LX-10 digital piano (that was announced also during the NAMM 2009, but that uses the older PHA II Progressive Hammer Action), we can read something about the 6.946.594 patent. This one doesn't seem published yet bowever, as it is often the case (Apple only recently released the hundreds of patents that cover the iPhone and multi-touch user interactions). |

 Modartt presented Pianoteq 3 , free for registered users. It brings two new piano models, C3 and M3 : the new acoustic model simulates simulates the sound radiation of the soundboard and the cabinet. Moreover many mics configurations are provided/editable : player, recording (4 mics in the C3 solo recording), close mic, binaural. Two electric piano models are also included, Rhody and Wurly.Audio demos are available, and a demo version can be downloaded here (session time limited to 20 minutes and disabled F#1, G#1, A#1, C#5, D#5, F#5, G#5 and A#5 notes. The electric pianos are included). The 6 new audio demos (C3 and M3) show an enhanced reaslim, despite a somewhat artifical sounding (sounds a bit as if plastic material... instead providing strong wood and table resonance, and soft/muffled keys on low register for lowest velocities, what Roland did great in SRX11 Complete Piano) and some lack of roundness in attack (was very good in Roland SRJV-09 Session piano). Since Roland V-Piano announce, Modartt had then to release quickly a new version of Pianoteq.s |

| NI presents a new Kore Soundpack, Spectral Expansion, that provides 200 sounds based on Kore's Absynth 4 engine (notably the Wave Morphing feature). It includes bass, pads, piano, keys, bells, that complement the previous ABSYNTH TWILIGHTS library (evolving soundscapes). It is priced 59$ (download) and audio demos are available (also a video about sound morphing). The first audio demo is great, and reminds one song from Labyrinth movie soundtrack (casting Jeniffer Connely), that was composed by David Bowie. |

| We can also discover a video of EastWest/Quantum Leap Pianos. The render is stunning. Among overall very positive reviews, we can find as strange comment : The pianos in Omnisphere are better than this. A thread at soundsonline forums also refers to a problem (still not verified) with sound amplitude management : the sound is said to be too much low for high velocities, as if it was compressed. |
