| As ideas (or promoting of something, like music) is now more and more likely to be received through web channels (web biggest companies are willing to get rid of regular TV, radio and now Press), search engines ranking algorithms will have too much impact on basic (fundamentals) rights. That is we should ensure independant/reliable control of these. One solution would be that such algorithms (the ones from Google, Yahoo, Microsoft, etc.) be provided to a central/regulated worldwide entity (where they may also be validated). Browsers would then allow to enter this central site address (through their general settings), and when searching for something on regular Google, Yahoo, etc. sites, the updated browsers would automatically send an additional request to the central site system (that would choose its corresponding validated engine to make the same search), and alert if returned results differ too much. Then it would prevent suspect filtering from both sides (considering both side don't make agreements...) ! |

| Audio softwares test Try sound solution, provided at Best Service site, is now available for mac. After registering for a 30 minutes test session we receive a download link to a client software (same principle as with VNC). The remote server runs Kontakt 4, Independance, and other hosts instances configured with a library each. We can switch to any listed library. For a given instance we can modify parameters/load instruments, as with regular remote networking. However the audio latency is very high. There is also to note that a background noise (birds like) is added to the stream. EastWest's TeraPack solution may then be better, however it has to be purchased again each time a new library is out (not problematic however for a single editor like EastWest, as new releases are logically less frequent). |

About the required video card, it is stated 256 MB Dedicated Shader model 3.0 or higher (ATI RADEON HD 4000/5000 series, NVIDIA GeForce® 100/200 series), so it may launch on a mac mini 2010 (a 3 Ghz processor and dedicated video card are listed however). |

 EastWest released Hollywood Strings Gold (available September, 27), a 16-bit version that provides a single mics configuration (mid-tree), all articulations (however no divisi), bow change (however not in legato mode). It is priced 750$ (1450$ for the full Diamond version) and includes 48 Gb of samples (310 Gb for Diamond version), on DVD or on a Western Digital Black Caviar internal disk (can be put on an external SATA case plugged through firewire) of 500 Gb, that is provided for free until September, 30.Moreover the Diamond verison is also included on the disk, for a 10 days try (allows to compare the two versions, and to easily upgrade). |

| This article provides a brief history of the revolution brought by Webkit in web graphics. There is to note that CSS transforms and transitions, that appeared in WebKit in 2007, only supported GPU accelerating in the iPhone WebKit version (through Core Animation). Google developed its own compositing engine for Chrome, Skia, inspired from OSX's CoreGraphics, for Canvas 2D implementation under Windows and Linux (on OSX Google logically uses CoreGraphics). These two implementations do not manage yet GPU accelerating (Google would have to use CoreGraphics's CGLayer on OSX for that), however Canvas 2D performance on Chrome under OSX is still ways behind Windows and Linux versions (that isn't the case for CSS transitions/animations, based on CoreAnimation's CALayer - and then the GPU). Quartz has been using GPU accelerating for windows moving since first version of OSX, however content redraw (areas selection) was never optimized (for example text reflow when resizing a window) and is still mainly software based. QuartzGL (that was released in Leopard and that was initially available under Tiger under Quartz Extreme name) was intended to solve this problem, however it is still disabled by default (could lead to visual artifacts, and Apple is still working on resolution independance, that is tied). |

| MacOSX Public Beta, a true revolution that recent switchers weren't aware of (and that can explain their lack of understanding of the layers that make MacOSX, and their wrong use of the system due to previous Windows experience), was launched 10 years ago at Paris's Apple Expo (Steve Jobs's keynote at Palais des Congrès - I was there -, and availability for purchase at Apple Expo / Parc des expositions following the presentation). Macworld speaks about their feelings at that time, and we can also watch the videos here. The provided documentation with Developer Tools presented the system layers (MACH task, then wrapped by a BSD one, and then by a Carbon one), Quartz engine, revolutionnary IOKit, and later (2001) CoreAudio. |

| Adobe provides CS5 HTML5 pack for Illustrator, that allows exporting to SVG or Canvas, at various resolutions (detection through CSS3 media queries). The transition to HTML5 is then confirmed, and Flash as a plugin could disapear soon, leaving place for an HTML5 based core. We have yet to see what visual editor Apple will unveil for iAd JS. |

| Orange Box pack (contains Half Life 2, episodes 1 & 2, Portal and Team Fortress 2) PC version (isn't available as box for mac) allows to activate the games through Steam on OSX : we have to click to Add Game (or menu Activate a game) from Steam application (not from internet site). Then Steam downloads the files when needed (some of these are different on mac and PC). Performance using the mac version is finally better on mac mini (and no slowdown after having played one hour, and no over-heating) than with using CrossOver. Rendering quality (water and reflections) is stunning, considering the game was out late 2004. |
