10-27-05 / 11:05 PM : Back on old Korg N264/N364 (cjed)
Back on a ten year old Korg workstation, the not well known N364 (i remember having readed its review on Keyboards mag). Mid-way between the previous 01W line, and later Tritons and N5, it wasn't so attracting. However the factory demos sound punchy (notably the second, MissionMan). This good site also provides phrases of best factory presets.
We can then listen to custom demos made on it, here.

10-13-05 / 09:58 AM : Boinc ! (vincent)
Behind this funny acronym there is a 'new' network computing software which makes the old SETI@home screensaver outdated. The strength of Boinc consists in the ability to join several research programs, running in background process and being designed for Altivec CPU. Some people having used Boinc on G5 are computing a SETI packet in less than 2 hours (against about 11 hours on my G4 1,25 GHz) ! At last something useful to give to our super computers.

10-12-05 / 10:11 PM : Ipod video & new iMac G5 (cjed)
Although the new ipod video isn't of so much interest (tiny 320*240 pixels 2,5 inches screen) compared with the Sony PSP, the imac G5 revision looks terrible : 1379 euros gives you access to the 17" model, very powerful (1,9 Ghz G5, new DDR2 memory with up to 700 Mhz front-side bus), Radeon X600 Pro fitted with 128 Mo - PCI Express, SATA 7200 tr/mn hard drive, dual layers superdrive, integrated bluetooth 2, integrated iSight, integrated airport extreme, Mighty Mouse... All needed to wait for the mid 2006 mactel.

The new album (second) of Katie Melua, Piece by piece, was on the shelves some days ago. The challenge was high, and even if the result isn't of the same impact than the first album, there is some excellent new songs here (Spider's Web, Thank You Stars), some pretty good (Nine Million Bicycles, Piece By Piece, Shy Boy), and the famous arrangement of Cure's Just Like Heaven. Without any surprise, the new titles that were included on the live DVD belong to the best.s

10-02-05 / 07:23 PM : Light and Shade (vincent)
Mike Oldfield has just released his new album "Light and Shade", a double one. Is it necessary to introduce one the most talented composer of the late 20th and begining 21th century (1 album per year) ? He uses the modern technologies with more or less success, some tracks sounding a lot like the few previous albums. Even if it's always pleasant to listen to, he's not renewed himself a lot, on the contrary of the fabulous Tubular Bells, Amarok or The Songs Of Distant Earth, the first one that used mostly synths. Anyway we can notice that he used Logic 7 on G5 and Roland and Yamaha keyboards, as well as 4 tracks that can be remixed by anybody (on PC) owing to the U-Myx technology. Quite up to date after the mix tracks for GarageBand from NIN !
