SampleLogic also released recently Morphestra, a library that includes 1200 instruments (27 Gb), divided into 3 categories : Atmosphere, Instrumentals, Percussive. The interface features 40 effects and morphing (Kontakt 4 required). The software is provided on a 160 Gb hard disk (USB2 and Firewire 800, 3 years warranty), and it is priced 699$. Audio demos are available.

SampleLogic presents A.I.R Expanded, that brings enhanced versions of existing instruments, plus 100 new instruments, 35 new multis and a new interface. The update is priced 50$ (360$ for the full version - 6,5 Gb). A 1,4 Ghz G4 is required (however it should work on a 1,25 Ghz G4 - except for convolution effects if present), as well as Kontakt 3.5 (the latest version compatible with PowerPC - Kontakt 4 requires an Intel mac). Audio demos are provided.

FXpansion presents BFD Heavy, an extension that provides two Yamaha kits (Recording Custom and Birch Custom Absolute), and that is downloadable for 70$. Audio demos are available.

We can also download at DFB2 demo (standalone only, one kit, velocity limited to 4 levels, 16 bits), 320 Mb size. Despite not being supported on G4, it may work on these processors.

The recently released NI AbbeyRoad 60s drums library for Kontakt 4 (does not support PowerPC macs) includes two kits, a Gretsch and a Ludwig (we can read the elements list here). The samples (2900 in 24 bits/44,1 kHz, and 30 velocity levels) use 6,3 Gb space in Kontakt 4 compressed format (that is 14 Gb uncompressed). Audio demos are available, and it is priced 99 euros.

Steinberg provides a trial version of Cubase 5 (fully fonctionnal 30 days demo). However it requires an USB-eLicenser key (20 euros) to activate the license. To remember, Steinberg provided another Cubase 5 (on MacOS9) just 10 years ago :-)

Synthogy announces Ivory II (available by May), an enhanced version of Ivory piano libraries : new audio engine and new samples. We can get the upgrades prices here (45 euros for Italian Grand upgrade. As it was deceiving, we hope that the new samples will be far more better).

The first Midi interface for iPhone, iConnectMIDI, has been announced. Besides the usual connector for external power supply, this compact device provides two Midi IN ports, two MIDI out ports, a standard USB port (to connect a Midi instrument fitted with USB connection), a mini-USB port (to connect to a computer - in the same way as Fastlane USB Midi interface), and finally a RJ-50 connector (network) to connect to an iPhone. It will allow to share Midi message between an iPhone, external Midi instruments and a computer, simultaneously.

We will then be able to use iPhone's multi-touch screen (from existing or future applications) to control external Midi instruments (for example an external sampled guitar from iShred), or the opposite (control iPhone's audio applications from an external Midi keyboard or sequencer). The price isn't available yet.

MuseScore is an open source (GPL licence) and cross-platform notation program. It manages unlimited number of staves, MusicXML format, and includes a sequencer that provides audio instruments based on Soundfont 2 samples. We can watch a video and download the latest version (0.9.5, universal binary) here.
