06-13-09 / 04:45 PM : RoguePlanet/1112 special price / LiveFire (cjed)
As Agharta Studio announced a new game, Rogue Planet (turn by turn strategy game), they drop the price of their famous adventure game 1112 episode 01 to 1,99$ (from 7,99$). Episode 02, whose development took more time than initially planned due to parallel work on Rogue Planet, should be released very soon. Moreover, as we can read in Episode 01 description that following episodes will be available at half the price, it should be priced no more than 4$.

We can also discover a more advanced video of Ngmoco's LiveFire, that was renamed Kill Test.

Real Racing, considered as the most realistic racing game for iPhone, is available at the AppStore (9,99$). First reviews are very positive, and we can watch a stunning video here. It seems better than Fastlane Racing. However Gameloft presented Asphalt 5 during the WWDC, announced as the best racing game for iPhone.

We can also find an iPhone adaptation of Prey FPS, priced 2,99$ (see a video here).

Finally a lite version of Flashback is available (includes the first level and is compatible with iPhone OS 3.0).

06-06-09 / 01:19 AM : iPhone Myst : 1.1.3 update soon (cjed)
The first Myst update (1.1.3) for iPhone has been submitted to Apple and should appear soon at the AppStore. Besides bugs fixes, it brings an in-game browser that allows to access to hints without having to quit the game, and removes about 200Mb unuseful synchro files (subversion .svn files, probably also used to manage versions on resources, and not only for code).

No information yet about an enhancement and compression of sounds and musics, that are 16bits/22Khz and mono (also for the music), that is 700kbits/s. Instead we could get at least high quality and stereo music, using master CD (on sale at Amazon) to produce AAC versions, at a third the bitrate (and so an aditionnal space gain).
We are also waiting for an option to choose the display ratio : original Myst pictures on CD had been rendered in 544*333, and it seems those on the iPhone version are the same size, only using jpeg compression algorithm (that wasn't available 15 years ago) to allow a better color depth (32 bits instead of indexed colors with 100 colors palette) while keeping a similar or reduced files sizes. It can then explain why trees on Myst island look like stretched down horizontally (iPhone resolution is 480*320 - so a different ratio).
The videos have been rendered again, in order to integrate nicely with the deeper images, and are likely to use a recent and efficient codec (we couldn't then do better in that area).

06-02-09 / 11:39 PM : iPhone Sims 3 available (cjed)
The Sims 3 is finally available at the AppStore (9,99$). First reviews are positive, however the game seems more targeted to social life than creativity : few customization options for characters, and very limited build actions for houses. We can read a presentation at Apple site.
