03-29-09 / 07:33 PM : The Age of Ilathid trailer 3 (cjed)
As announced on forums of The Age of Ilathid game, a third trailer of that promising other Myst like game is available. We can read an old interview, and access to a wiki.

While discovering back comments on the original news (that was mid-2005, that is before I started publishing recent musics at musique-libre.org) I wonder if I could contact again the development team. Moreover a new member provided his help a year ago for music and sound design.

03-25-09 / 11:12 PM : Ind Game Festival / Wolfenstein&iPhone dev (cjed)
As iPhone games were center during the Independent Game Festival (among finalists we noted Edge, Zen Bound, and the older Dizzy Be), we can read a long article from John Carmack about iPhone games development (optimization concerns), illustrated by the Wolfenstein port (whose engine was based on the older ray casting to determine elements to display).

03-23-09 / 10:36 PM : New Mac Pro and games (cjed)
The site barefeats provides a test of new Mac Pro (and older) in various games, using the available graphics cards. As expected the latest ATI cards are ways faster than GeForce, and cores frequency is the second factor (as games don't benefit from additionnal cores - then the larger Nehalem memory bandwidth isn't really usefull here. It seems the same for multithreaded OpenGL on OSX - or tested games don't use it, contrary to WoW -, or data exchanges between the main processors and the central memory are limited for these uses - data are stored initially on the video card memory, and OpenGL threads on the main cores only control GPU execution units calculations on these data).

03-19-09 / 11:31 PM : Alien Abuse : new action/shooter reference (cjed)
Alien Abuse is a new action/shooter game for iPhone, available at the AppStore for only 0,99$. From the provided video on the editor site it seems that the game pushed the technical limits even further (smoothness and controls), and could be the new reference in that gaming area. First reviews are all very positive. Moreover the game features 20 levels, providing 20 hours of gaming.

03-19-09 / 11:22 PM : LiveFire FPS on iPhone (cjed)
Ngmoco, the editor of Rolando, presented LiveFire, a multiplayer FPS for iPhone (through Wifi or 3G) that reminds Nexuiz. As with Cube, movements and actions are controlled by touch, and looking/aiming by using the accelerometer. The FOV is said to be great (is somewhat a problem with many iPhone games). We can watch a video here (low quality format but even with this it cannot play smoothly on a G4, that can still handle perfectly H264 480p... so perhaps it is Flash ?)

In an interview from Pangea Software, we learn that the game company will focuse on iPhone market, far more profitable than mac games. For just one developer gains were about 1,5 million $. However there is still to consider that Pangea titles were previously available, they only had to do porting (on a similar system architecture, except controls system and required optimizations).

03-14-09 / 01:19 AM : Sims 3 : interview and video (cjed)
Macworld provides an interview (video) of EA about the upcoming Sims 3. Various places are now completely connected (no break), shadows and reflections (water, etc.) look nice, and many characters (in town, etc.) remind community sites (or WoW). The graphics in the video however seem a bit less detailed than before sometimes, simpler, with soft colors.
